Not the Pakistan I know

At the risk of sounding repetitive, my country has once again let me down. When did the city I love turn to the city I just do not get? Once a hustling bustling metropolitan full of energetic helpful and seriously hardworking individuals, today it seems to vying for the headlines in all international newspapers. Its just sad. And what’s sadder is that out of the millions that reside there, none are making an effort to change things for the positive. Everyone is discussing, everyone is shaking their head in sorrow, but none is making a move to rectify the mess some idiots in the country are making. But please. Not for a second am I removing myself from the millions. I am very much to blame. I don’t know what it is, but in short, I just don’t know what to do. You would think by now, after years of seeing Pakistan struggle to get back on its feet (if it ever was, is questionable), I and we would know what to do. But we are at a loss. And I think the reason is that these perpetrators keep changing their goals and their mission. One minute they’re targeting their own, next its another sect of the same religion and then all of a sudden its minorities. Imagine. The criminals cannot make up their minds on whom to inflict torture on. Makes you question their motives doesn’t it? So maybe their mission isn’t as sacred as they make it seem. Maybe its just a bunch of imbeciles so jealous of the peace of others, they create a ruckus just to get some attention. Stop it already. We don’t care who you are or what you believe. We just wish you would keep these god-forsaken views to your damn self.

The latest to be churned out of the rumor mill is the kidnapping of young girls, in plain sight of people all over the city. I have a few views on this. Firstly, if its happening out in the open, in daytime mostly, why the heck aren’t the people updating Facebook statuses, actually helping out the poor women? Why are the pulling out their smartphones instead of a bat to clobber the kidnappers?

Ok, I’ll grant them the possibility that everyone cannot swoop in like a masked hero and save the damsel. But then why are we not gathering together actual facts and figures and going to the police with them. Why are we sharing on social media when we should be taking the streets in order to put an end to this insanity?

If true, it saddens me that the frustration in our city has now reached such disgusting proportions. Kidnapping women in front of coffee houses? Really? Is that what it has come down to? Attack the weak to showcase your manliness? Disgusting. These men need a reality check. Forcing yourself upon someone doesn’t make you a man. It makes you pathetic. And pitiful.
